Being a tourist in your own town

I knew of the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, right here in our own small Wisconsin town...I'm even friends with the Anderson family who lived in it for 30-some years, but I had never had the pleasure of photographing a family in the home. Wright called the house “Still Bend”, referring to the location on the East Twin River where the river slows to form a wide marsh. This superbly constructed Usonian was built for a Two Rivers businessman and finished in the spring of 1940. As a photographer, I appreciate the shapes and textures Wright used to bring the Schwartz family home into close harmony with its natural surroundings. But, for me, it's the warm colors and tones that make this such an extraordinary architectural gem. The rich color of the red tidewater board and batten, the gold pieces of pottery, the glow of the fire in the massive fireplace on a cold winter day. Steven and Corrine chose this place to gather their family from near and far. Only the warmth of this family could equal the beauty of their surroundings and I am so happy they honored me with the privilege of helping them preserve their memories.
